Areas of heavy rain will be pushing northwards during the next 24 hours, turning to sleet and snow over high ground in central and northern areas. In the longer term a similar pattern remains in place, with the likelihood of further flooding in parts of the UK. A pattern change could develop through the middle third of February.

Outbreaks of rain push northwards through the day. Over the Welsh mountains, the Peak District and the Pennines, precipitation will turn to snow. The rain will be heavy at times. In eastern Scotland, rain and hill snow continue for much of the day, while in the west it remains mostly dry. Windy in the north..

Tonight:Another area of heavy rain spreads northwards across the southern half of the UK. In the northern half conditions will be split, with patchy rain, sleet and snow in the east, whilst the west stays mostly dry.

Tomorrow:Wet weather continues moving northwards, reaching central Scotland through the afternoon. Over the Scottish mountains further snow is likely. In southern Britain showery conditions develop in the afternoon.
