The weather continues to be stuck in a rut in the coming days. Further rain and hill snow are expected, with relatively mild conditions in the south and cold ones in the north. When will the pattern break down? That's not certain, with computer models signaling that significant changes will take time.

Outbreaks of rain and snow in the northern half of the UK gradually become patchier and confined to Scotland. To their south it is a mostly dry picture and sunny spells will develop in places.

Tonight:Showery rain and hill snow continue in northeastern Britain. Other areas will start dry, but outbreaks of rain will spread into southern and central areas. Windy, particularly in the north.

Tomorrow:Outbreaks of rain push northwards, once again turning to sleet and snow over high ground. Cold in the north, quite mild in the south.

Friday: Very wet conditions are expected to push northwards, leading to the risk of further flooding. Over northern hills, further sleet and snow are likely. Quite mild in the south, but cold in the north.
Outlook: The weather remains changeable with showers or longer spells of rain and strong winds at times. There is an ongoing risk of snow over high ground in central and northern areas.
