An area of low pressure, named Storm Chandra by the UK Met Office, will bring disruptive rain, wind and snow to parts of the UK today. The heaviest rain is expected to be focused in the south, the strongest winds in the west and snow over high ground in the north.
Issued 19th January 2026
Heavy outbreaks of rain steadily push eastwards across the UK. They will lead to flooding and travel disruption in southern Britain. In the north disruptive snow is likely over high ground, but at low levels rain or sleet is most likely. It will also be very windy, with gusts of over 70mph possible in exposed parts of the south west, Wales and Northern Ireland. By mid afternoon showery conditions return to much of the UK, although longer outbreaks of rain, sleet and snow continue in the far east and north east.
Temperatures range from 3°C in northern Scotland to 11°C in the south west. Check the weather radar for the most up to date view.
