Tonight, heavy outbreaks of rain will move across Wales and England. By morning, clearer and showery conditions return to most areas, but it remains wet in the southeastern corner and East Anglia. In the north, it will be a cold and showery night, with showers falling as snow to quite low levels in Scotland. Significant accumulations are likely over the mountains.

Tomorrow, showers continue in northern and western areas. In Scotland they will be wintry down to low levels, and elsewhere, over high ground. Central and eastern counties of England have a dry and bright day. Rather cold.

Wintry weekend

During Friday a band of rain will move across the UK, reaching the southeast and East Anglia by the evening. Brighter conditions follow, but showers are expected in the north and west. The unsettled theme continues into the weekend. Outbreaks of rain are likely to clear southwards early on, followed by showery conditions. Showers may become heavy and wintry in the north, with significant accumulations of snow over high ground and a risk of blizzard conditions at times. The strongest winds will occur in the north and along coastal areas, where severe gales are possible.
