Storm Ciarán which brought damage and disruption yesterday is now weakening and moving away. Nonetheless, it will be responsible for more wet weather in north eastern Britain today. Elsewhere, there will be showers but also bright spells. The prospects for the weekend are mixed, and with many firework displays planned for both Saturday and Sunday it is advisable to keep an eye on the short range forecasts. (If you would like to browse the website without adverts and contribute to its ongoing development, explore the payment options, see below)

Tonight, there will be further showers, but the persistent rain in the north east gradually fades away. During the second half of the night heavy outbreaks of rain push into south western Britain..

Tomorrow, outbreaks of rain push northeastwards across England and Wales. Drier conditions follow to most areas, although in the far south and east it could remain wet into the evening. Scotland and Northern Ireland probably have a mix of sunny spells and showers. It will be windy in the south, with the likelihood of gales in the English Channel.

Mixed early next week

Sunday is looking bright and blustery. However, there will be showers in places, particularly in coastal counties. Temperatures could be a little higher than recently.

During Monday showers or longer spells of rain affect the north west. There could be a few showers in other regions, but it should be mainly dry.

A ridge of high pressure could bring dry conditions to much of the UK on Tuesday. However, later in the day the next batch of rain may start to push into the west.
