Meteorological autumn has arrived By Brian Gaze [Published 06:20 01/09/2026] The meteorological autumn begins today, but based on the astronomical calendar, it doesn't start until 23 September. Regardless, it is a season of big contrasts. Early on very warm or even hot periods remain possible, but by November the chance of cold conditions increases rapidly. In fact, the last two Novembers brought more snow to parts of the south than the following winters. 14 day weather forecast video Issued 25th August 2026 Rain in the north Outbreaks of rain move southwards across the northern half of the UK and fragment. Southern and central regions may see an odd shower, but most places remain dry with variable amounts of cloud. Temperatures range from 16°C in the north west to 23°C in the south east. They bring the likelihood of further showers or longer spells of rain, but there will be drier and warmer spells too, especially in the south.
