Rain in the north and west

Patchy spells of rain affect northern and western areas, becoming heavy in the north west this afternoon. Other parts of the UK have a mostly dry and bright day, although a few light showers are possible.

Tonight:
Outbreaks of rain spread southwards and eastwards, with showery conditions following them. Amounts of rain in the south generally remain small, although they could be more significant in some locations. 

Tomorrow:
The remnants of the overnight rain clear from the south and the north east. Sunny spells develop, but there will be showers in the north and west.

Wednesday: Showers become widespread in the north and west, merging to give longer spells of rain at times. In southern, central and eastern England, there should be a lot of dry and bright weather, although it could turn wet through the evening and overnight.

Outlook: Changeable with showers or longer spells of rain early on. By the weekend it could be turning more settled as an area of high pressure builds in from the west. Temperatures generally quite close to the late August average.
