Cooler in the south than recently By Brian Gaze [Published 06:00 06/08/2026] Cool isn't a word that has been used much about the weather in southern Britain this summer, but it will be more appropriate today, with lower temperatures than has often been the case. However, in the coming days it is expected to turn a good deal warmer, and heatwave conditions are possible next week, with summer proving very reluctant to relinquish its grip on the south. 14 day weather forecast video Issued 4th August 2026 Cooler than recently Scattered showers continue today, mainly in central areas and the north west. Despite that, most places remain dry with variable amounts of cloud. It will be cooler than recently. Temperatures range from 14°C in northern Scotland to 23°C in the south east. Somewhat cooler air may move southwards for a time, but heatwave conditions could develop again next week, with the warmth spreading northwards.
