Heat builds to record breaking levels By Brian Gaze [Published 07:00 25/06/2026] A new provisional June temperature record was set yesterday, and there is a strong likelihood that another will be set today as the heatwave reaches its peak. Tomorrow, the highest temperatures will become focused on central and eastern areas as cooler air gradually begins to push in from the west. 14 day weather forecast video Issued 23rd June 2026 New June record yesterday and today A fine day is expected across virtually the whole of the UK, although in the far north-west there will be outbreaks of rain. It will be very warm in the north and exceptionally hot in southern and central areas. Temperatures will range from 25°C in northern Scotland to 38°C in the south west. However, in London, the south east and East Anglia, it is likely to be a little cooler than yesterday, with maximum temperatures in the high 20s°C to low 30s°C. The June temperature record, set yesterday, is very likely to be broken today. Note: Gosport, Hampshire reported 36.1°C yesterday, surpassing the previous June temperature record of 35.6°C, set in 1976. Check the weather radar for the most up to date view. England and Wales remain dry, with a tropical night expected across much of the region. A tropical night is defined as one in which temperatures do not fall below 20°C. However, in much of southern, central and eastern England it will probably remain dry, sunny and hot. Computer models are suggesting temperatures could still be pushing up towards 35°C. Outlook: Through Sunday and the early part of next week the cooler air reaches all areas. Despite the lower temperatures there should still be plenty of dry and bright weather around.
