New June temperature record today? By Brian Gaze [Published 06:30 24/06/2026] Today will be even hotter than yesterday, and there is a significant chance of a new June temperature record being set. The target is 35.6°C, set in the famous summer of 1976. Tomorrow will probably see the heatwave peaking, although there is still a chance that this could happen on Friday. 14 day weather forecast video Issued 23rd June 2026 Very hot in southern and central areas A fine day is expected across virtually the whole of the UK, although in the far north west thicker cloud may bring some light rain. It will be very warm in the north and very hot in southern and central regions. Temperature will be between 22°C in the far north and 36°C in the south, but a few degrees lower in western Scotland and the western isles. The current June temperature record, 35.6°C recorded in 1976, may well be beaten. Check the weather radar for the most up to date view. The current target is 40.3°C, set in July 2022. Even in southern Scotland and Northern Ireland the low 30s is likely to be reached. The exceptions are northern and western Scotland, where heavy bursts of rain are likely. UKV, Thursday 25th June [Tap animation to toggle cities] Friday: Showers become more widespread in the north, and thunderstorms could develop elsewhere. However, it will be another very warm day across much of the north and west, and a very hot one in southern, central and eastern England. There is a low, but not insignificant, chance that the highest temperature of the heatwave will be recorded in East Anglia or the south east today. Outlook: Through the weekend cooler air slowly pushes eastwards. Details remain uncertain with some models indicating temperatures could still reach the low to mid-30s in central and eastern England on Saturday. By Sunday the fresher Atlantic air is expected to have reached all regions. Next week should bring plenty of fine and rather warm weather. However, there is a chance of very warm or hot conditions returning to south eastern Britain at times. GFS overview for Friday 26th June - Sunday 28th June
