Thundery showers in the south east By Brian Gaze [Published 09:45 23/06/2026] The heatwave affecting much of the UK continues today, but thundery showers and overnight rain in the south east are likely to cap temperatures. A new June temperature record still looks likely over the next few days before cooler conditions begin returning from the west on Friday and through the weekend. 14 day weather forecast video Issued 16th June 2026 Hot in southern and central areas Sunny periods develop widely today, but further thunderstorms are possible, particularly in the south east. In the north it becomes very warm, whilst southern and central areas will be hot and humid. Widespread rain in the south overnight and the potential for further storms is likely to act as a cap on maximum temperatures, as much of the sun's energy will be used to evaporate moisture rather than heat the ground. Therefore, the highest values being modelled in recent days, around 37°C to 38°C, now seem unlikely to be reached. The temperature range across the UK will probably be from 22°C in the far north west to 34°C in the south. Check the weather radar for the most up to date view. Maximum temperatures will be dependent on the extent of cloud cover, but many computer models suggest the heat will peak.
