The weather will be more changeable this week, leading to an increased risk of rain, sleet, snow and strong winds. Temperatures will edge upwards, particularly in the south, but on the whole it will remain cold or very cold for a while yet.
Issued 30th December 2025
Snow showers clear from the south east this morning. Most inland areas then have a dry and bright day, but wintry showers continue in coastal counties. Some heavy ones are likely to give accumulations of snow, particularly in northern Scotland and north eastern England.
Very cold. Temperatures range from -2°C in the far north to 3°C in the south and 6C in the south west. Check the weather radar for the most up-to-date view.

Wednesday: Rain, sleet and snow clears from the south east to leave sunny spells. In the afternoon cloud and outbreaks of rain may push into Northern Ireland and south western Britain. Cold.
Outlook: Changeable. An area of low pressure is expected to bring rain, sleet and snow, as well as strong winds. Snow is likely on its northern and western flanks, so the track it takes across the UK will be the determining factor. Currently, central Britain looks mostly likely to see heavy snow.
