More changeable weather is expected to develop in the coming days as milder air starts to return from the Atlantic. This leads to an increasing risk of rain, sleet and snow, with the potential for disruptive accumulations in places. The details are very uncertain, but the greatest risk of significant snowfall is in northern and eastern areas, particularly over high ground.

Snow showers continue in northern Scotland, as well as western, northern and eastern coastal counties. The rest of the UK can expect sunny periods and dry conditions, although this afternoon snow showers are likely to move across Wales and into central counties of England..

Tonight:Snow showers push southeastwards across central and southern counties, potentially giving a covering in places. There will also be further snow showers in coastal counties, but elsewhere it remains dry with clear periods. A widespread and severe frost develops.

Tuesday: More changeable conditions develop. Outbreaks of rain, sleet and snow are most likely in the north and west. Accumulations of snow are likely in places. To the south and east it probably remains dry.
Outlook: Changeable. Outbreaks of rain, sleet, and snow clear southeastwards at the start of the period. In the following days, the risk of snow becomes increasingly focused on the north, with rain more likely in the south.
