Tonight:
Showery outbreaks of rain, sleet and snow push southwards across the UK. Snow is likely at low levels in the north, but in central and southern areas it will mostly be confined to high ground. Clearing skies in Scotland and northern England lead to a penetrating frost. Windy, particularly in coastal counties.

Milder at the weekend

Thursday: Wintry showers continue in north and east facing coastal counties. Elsewhere it will dry with sunny periods. Very cold with frost eastly and late.

Outlook: Through Friday and the weekend more changeable and less cold conditions return from the west. As weather fronts bump into the cold air over the UK there is the possibility of a period of sleet or snow in the north, but it shouldn't last long. Thereafter, all areas could have rain at times with the risk of snow restricted to the Scottish mountains.
