Colder weather likely later this week

Unsettled and mild weather will continue in the short term, but a significant change is expected during the second half of the week. Colder conditions will begin developing in the north, and by early next week they are likely to have pushed southwards across all of the UK.

Heavy rain in places

Outbreaks of rain will be heavy in northern England and Northern Ireland. It also turns wet at times in Wales, south western England and southern Scotland. Northern Scotland,, along with central and eastern counties of England remain mostly dry. Windy in Welsh and south western coastal counties.

Tonight:
Outbreaks of rain push northwards and eastwards. By the morning it is likely to be wet in northern and western Scotland, and much of southern Britain. Windy in the far north.

Tomorrow:
An area of heavy rain edges into central Britain, with drier conditions returning in much of the south and southeast. Northern England, southern Scotland and Northern Ireland have a good deal of dry weather, but in central and northern Scotland there will be outbreaks of rain. Over the mountains they could fall as sleet or snow.

Colder weather on the way?

Thursday:

Mixed conditions persist. An area of rain is likely to be slow moving in Northern Ireland, southern Scotland and northern England. There could be some rain in the southeast for a time too, but it should fade away. Cold to the north of the rain, mild to its south.

Outlook:

In the following days the weather remains changeable and temperatures begin to dip in the north. By Friday it is likely to be cold enough for sleet or snow showers over high ground in Scotland. However, in southern and central regions, heavy outbreaks of rain are expected. Through the weekend colder air may push southwards.
