The weather will remain mild across much of the UK over the next few days. During the second half of the week, temperatures begin to fall in the north, leading to an increasing chance of snow over high ground. Will the cold air push southwards? Things are very uncertain at the moment.

Outbreaks of rain in Scotland and Northern Ireland clear northwards by early afternoon. However, another area of heavy showery rain spreads northeastwards across England and Wales. Quite windy.

Tonight:Drier conditions return, and in the north it could be cold enough for a ground frost. Later on cloud builds from the southwest and outbreaks of rain push into southwestern England and Wales.

Tomorrow:Outbreaks of rain spread northeastwards across much of the UK, although it probably remains dry in central and northern Scotland. Rainfall amounts in central and eastern England are likely to be small, but elsewhere there is the likelihood of some heavy bursts. In southern and central parts of the UK it will be mild and windy.

Wednesday:
Mixed conditions persist. Rain is likely to be focused on southern and central areas, as well as the northern half of Scotland. It will be very mild apart from in the far north where temperatures remain closer to the norm. Windy in the south and northwest.
Outlook:
In the following days the weather remains changeable and temperatures begin to dip, particularly in the north. By Friday it is likely to be cold enough for sleet or snow showers over high ground in Scotland. Through the weekend colder air may push southwards.
