The weather remains unsettled during the coming days as areas of low pressure move in from the Atlantic. Therefore, all regions can expect wet and windy periods, but it will be turning milder. Currently there are 56 flood warnings in place, and conditions are not likely to improve in the short term. However, there are some indications of high pressure bringing drier periods as we head towards middle December. Tuesday starts with outbreaks of in southern and central regions. In much of the rest of the UK it is a showery picture, although it is drier in the western half of Scotland.
This morning the outbreaks of rain become more showery and focused on eastern England. The afternoon is expected to be dry in most of the UK, although showers continue to be a risk on eastern Britain. There will be sunny spells too, with the best of them in the north.

The seasonal forecast for Winter 2023-24 has been issued and covers December, January and February. The headline is for a slightly milder and wetter than average season.

Tonight, clear periods lead to a widespread frost and in the north it will be severe in places. However, later in the night temperatures start to rise in Wales and southern England as cloud builds.
Tomorrow, patchy outbreaks of rain push across Northern Ireland and in the afternoon they extend into the far west of Britain. Other areas have a dry and cold day.
During Thursday a band of heavy rain pushes eastwards and over the Scottish mountains snow is likely. Brighter conditions follow into Northern Ireland, Wales and south western England during the afternoon, but showers are still expected. Another feature of the weather will be the winds, with gales or even severe gales possible in coastal counties.
Friday is looking mixed. Showers or longer spells of rain are possible and temperatures should be noticeably higher than recently. However, it remains quite windy.
The unsettled weather persists on Saturday. Outbreaks of rain push across the UK and in the north they are likely to be heavy. Drier conditions follow and it turns very mild in southern and central regions.
