The coming week will bring unsettled weather and there is the potential for it to be very wet in southern and central regions. Temperatures trend upwards, although it may remain cold in Scotland for several days yet. Monday starts wet in much of England and Wales. In Scotland and Northern Ireland there has been a widespread frost and there are wintry showers in places.
Outbreaks of rain continue to affect England and Wales through the day. They will be heavy at times, but some drier periods are expected too. Over high ground in the north sleet or snow is possible. Scotland and Northern Ireland have sunny spells and wintry showers.
Cold in much of the UK, although in the south temperatures temperatures won't be far from the December average. Values range from 2°C in Scotland to 8°C in the south of England. You can check the weather radar for the most up to date view.
The seasonal forecast for Winter 2023-24 has been issued and covers December, January and February. The headline is for a slightly milder and wetter than average season.

Tonight, there will be further heavy outbreaks In England and Wales, but they steadily become patchier. In Scotland and Northern Ireland frost returns and wintry showers become confined to the north east.
Tomorrow, showery rain increasingly restricted to eastern counties of England. Elsewhere, it should be a mostly dry afternoon, with the brightest conditions in the north and west. Cold, particularly in the north.
Wednesday start with a widespread frost. However, outbreaks of rain quickly develop in Northern Ireland and through the afternoon they push into western and central Britain. Over high ground in the north they are likely to be preceded by a period of snow. In the east it remains dry.
Thursday is looking unsettled with wet conditions in much of the UK. In the north and east it remains cold, but in south western England, Wales and Northern Ireland it will be milder. Windy.
Forecast details for Friday are uncertain. Nonetheless, showers or longer spells of rain are possible and temperatures should generally be quite close to the average for the time of the year.
