The meteorological autumn ends today with dry, sunny and cold weather in much of the UK. However, areas to the south of London have patchy outbreaks of rain and hill snow. There will also be wintry showers in eastern Britain, with many of them falling as sleet or snow in the north. The cold weather continues tomorrow and on Saturday. By Sunday forecast confidence starts to fall as areas of low pressure push in from the west. Tonight, wintry showers continue in the east and they could give accumulations of snow in places. The wet weather to the south of London steadily clears to leave dry conditions. Other areas have clear periods with a widespread, and in places severe frost, developing.
Tomorrow will be cold and bright in much of the UK. Nonetheless, there will be further sleet or snow showers in the east, and a few could push into central areas. Frost will be widespread early and late.
The cold weather continues on Saturday. Scattered showers are expected to become focused on western coastal counties, with many of them falling as sleet or snow in the north. Don't forget your winter woollies if you're heading out in the evening!
During Sunday the risk of showers increases in Northern Ireland and the far west of Britain. Over high ground they could be wintry. The rest of the UK probably has another fine day, although there is uncertainty. Some computer model runs are showing showery outbreaks of rain and snow becoming more widespread from the west.
Forecast details for Monday are uncertain. Mostly dry weather is currently the favoured outcome, but some computer models are showing a more unsettled and wetter picture.
