Summer ends in the south today? By Brian Gaze [Published 06:30 06/10/2026] The south has another warm day, with temperatures peaking in the low 20Cs, making it feel like summer in the afternoon sun. However, we are now well into autumn, and the coming days will see cooler conditions pushing southwards, along with the risk of showers or longer spells of rain. 14 day forecast video Issued 29th September 2026 Mixed but warm in the south Patchy outbreaks of rain in Northern Ireland, northern England and northern Wales will be slow moving today. To the north there will be sunny spells, but showers push into northern Scotland. In most of southern and central England, as well as southern Wales, it will remain dry, bright and warm. However, outbreaks of rain are likely to push into the southwestern peninsula in the afternoon. Temperatures range from 12°C in northern Scotland to 22°C in the south east. Showers continue feeding into the north west, but in much of the northern half of the UK it remains dry, and ground frost develops in places. There could be a reasonable amount of dry weather, especially in the south, but some models are showing a more unsettled pattern persisting.
