October warmth holds on in the south By Brian Gaze [Published 08:40 04/10/2026] Southern Britain will have more warm weather over the next few days, but by Wednesday cooler air will be pushing southwards. Many people are likely to be switching on their central heating as autumn finally makes its way to southern counties. 14 day forecast video Issued 29th September 2026 Rain in the north Patchy outbreaks of rain affect much of the north today, and in western Scotland they will often be heavy. Southern and central regions generally have a dry day, although there could be a few spots of rain in western Wales. After a chilly start, it will feel quite pleasant in the afternoon, with the south having the sunniest conditions. Temperatures range from 11°C in northern Scotland to 22°C in the south east. Brighter conditions follow it into the north, but there will be showers. In southern England, it is likely to remain dry and bright until the late afternoon or evening. Outlook: Cooler conditions spread southwards into all areas. Although daytime temperatures won't be too far from the norm for October, it will feel chilly given the recent warmth. Despite the lower temperatures there should be a good deal of dry weather, although showers are likely, particularly in the north and west where they could be heavy.
