Autumn arrives in the south next week By Brian Gaze [Published 06:20 03/10/2026] Temperatures will continue reaching the low 20s°C during the next few days in southern and central England. However, much conditions are expected to push southwards by the middle of next week, at least for a time. Many people are likely to be switching on their central heating as autumn finally makes its way to southern counties. 14 day forecast video Issued 29th September 2026 Sunny spells in much of the UK A band of showery rain in central areas becomes more fragmented as it pushes southwards. Therefore, in much of southern England it is expected to stay dry, but cloud amounts will increase and there could be showers in places. Brighter conditions follow from the north, but there will be showers in Scotland. Temperatures range from 11°C in northern Scotland to 22°C in the south east. In Scotland and Northern Ireland, cloud builds and outbreaks of rain develop. These turn heavy in western Scotland. In Scotland and Northern Ireland, a band of rain steadily pushes southwards. Outlook: During the next few days outbreaks of rain slowly clear southeastwards. Much cooler conditions follow, so it is likely to be something of a shock to the system in southern and central areas, with the likelihood of the central heating switching on. Despite the lower temperatures there should be a good deal of dry weather, although showers are likely, particularly in the north and west, where they could be heavy.
