Astronomical autumn starts today

Meteorological autumn began on 1st September, while astronomical autumn started today with the equinox at approximately 01:06 BST. However, summery weather is holding on in the south, while central and northern areas are more unsettled. That could change early next week, with some models showing a deep area of low pressure moving in from the Atlantic.

Rain clearing eastwards

Heavy outbreaks of rain in central and north eastern areas steadily clear eastwards. Elsewhere it will be dry with variable amounts of cloud.

Temperatures range from 12°C in the north to 24°C in the south. Check the weather radar for the most up to date view.

Tonight:
Dry across the UK until late in the night, when outbreaks of rain start pushing into the far northwest. Chilly in the north.

Tomorrow:
Most areas have a dry day with variable amounts of cloud. However, outbreaks of rain push into the north west. Feeling pleasantly warm in southern and central Britain.

Friday: Outbreaks of rain fragment as they push southeastwards across northern and western areas. In southern, central and eastern areas it remains dry and bright. Very warm in the south.

Outlook: Wet and windy weather will affect the north and west of the UK at times. Elsewhere, the emphasis is on dry conditions with sunny spells, although bands of cloud spreading southeastwards may bring some light rain at times. The first half of next week could see it turning wetter and much windier, as a deep area of low pressure moves in from the Atlantic.
