Temperatures are likely to peak close to 27°C in the south east today. However, the late-season warmth won’t last long, and by Sunday there is likely to be a distinct chill in the air, even in the South. A number of places are expected to record their first frosts of the season.

Showery spells of rain continue in northern Wales, northern England and Northern Ireland. A few showers are also possible in the far north, but elsewhere it should remain mostly dry. The brightest conditions will be in southern and central areas, where it becomes very warm. Windy in northern Scotland.

Tonight:Rain continues across the same areas, and there will be some very heavy bursts mixed in. Very mild in southern and central areas.
Tomorrow:Heavy rain becomes more widespread in Wales, the south west, Northern Ireland, northern England and southern Scotland. Windy. Rather cold in the north, but still quite warm in the south east and East Anglia.

Sunday:
Showery bursts of rain steadily clear southeastwards through the day. Bright and chilly conditions will follow from the north, although scattered showers are likely to develop. Over the Scottish mountains, sleet or snow is possible.
Outlook:
Early next week showers are likely at times, especially in the north and east, and it will feel rather cool. However, by the middle of the week it should be mostly dry, with temperatures climbing back towards the late September norm.
