Monday - Storm Floris:
An area of low pressure, named Storm Floris (the sixth named storm of the season) by the UK Met Office, is expected to bring unseasonably wet and windy weather to parts of the UK on Monday.
The initial wind warning, issued by the UK Met Office on 1st August, covers much of the northern half of the UK and northern Wales. The warning is in effect from 6am on Monday 4th August until 6am on Tuesday 5th August. Gusts of up to 70 mph are likely over higher ground and in coastal areas, with some computer model runs indicating maximum gusts of 80–90 mph.
Outbreaks of rain will push southeastwards, although rainfall amounts in the south may be small. Winds in southern areas are also expected to be lighter, with gusts more likely in the 30–45 mph range.
Outlook:
High pressure builds bringing a more settled and warmer period. There is uncertainty about how long it will last for, and it is possible that unsettled conditions will return to the north by Thursday.
