Warm and sunny in late August. Posted by Brian Gaze

The long term prospects remain uncertain, but at least during the rest of this week it looks as though it will be turning significantly warmer, with a good deal of dry weather to boot! Temperatures so far this June have been below the norm, but by Friday values may be reaching 27°C. (If you would like to browse the website without adverts and contribute to its ongoing development, explore the payment options, see below)

Tonight the showers fade away and clear spells develop in much of the UK. In the northern half of the UK it will be cold for the time of the year. A ground frost is possible locally in Northern Ireland and Scotland.

Tomorrow, patchy outbreaks of rain affect northern Scotland, but the rest of the UK remains dry and bright. Temperatures will generally be a little higher than today's.

Summer arriving?

The following few days are expected to see more summery weather developing. At last!. There could be some rain in the north and west at times, but the emphasis is on sunny periods and rising temperatures. On Friday and Saturday values are likely to push into the mid 20Cs and it's possible that 27°C could be reached locally.

Is the fine weather here to stay? As ever, there is a good deal of uncertainty when looking further ahead. Nonetheless, several computer models are showing high pressure having a good deal of influence on the UK's weather next week.
