April shower with hail and thunder. Posted by Brian Gaze

Showers return today but they will be more scattered and lighter than recently. Conditions remain changeable tomorrow, but through Friday and the weekend an area of high pressure builds in from the west. It brings dry weather to most of the UK, with the highest temperatures in the west. (If you would like to browse the website without adverts and contribute to its ongoing development, explore the payment options, see below)

Tonight the showers in southern and central regions clear. All regions then have clear spells and it will become cold with a widespread frost. Later on, cloud and rain push into the north west of the UK.

Tomorrow, outbreaks of rain steadily push southwards. By the late afternoon they will probably be affecting central areas. In the south it remains dry, whilst in Scotland brighter and showery conditions return. Windy and rather chilly.

Drier by the weekend

Friday could begin with outbreaks of rain in East Anglia and the far south east. They should clear quickly to leave dry and bright conditions, but it will be windy in the east. In sunny spells it feels pleasantly warm.

Saturday is likely to be dry and bright in much of the UK. The exception is northern and western Scotland where patchy outbreaks of rain are likely to be pushing eastwards.

Sunday is forecast to be dry across virtually the whole of the UK. In sunny spells it becomes quite warm, particularly in northern and western areas.
