Much of the UK remains dry today, but it will be colder than recently. Through tonight and tomorrow outbreaks of rain push northwards and they are expected to turn to sleet or snow in parts of central and northern Britain as they bump into the cold air. Significant falls of snow are possible in places, particularly over higher ground. Tonight, heavy outbreaks of rain extend across southern Britain and they are accompanied by strengthening winds. As the band of rain pushes into northern Wales and central England sleet or snow becomes likely on its leading edge. Areas to the north have a widespread frost, and snow showers in Scotland steadily fade away.
Tomorrow, outbreaks of rain, sleet and snow continue spreading northwards across England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Snow in the Midlands probably eases and turns back to rain. In northern England and Northern Ireland there could be significant falls of snow, particularly over high ground. Even some low level locations may have accumulations of several cms, but conditions look marginal and snow could turn back to rain at times.
Scotland has a cold day with scattered snow showers. Southern England will be very mild with a lot of cloud and some showery rain. By the evening more persistent outbreaks of rain return.

Friday is looking very unsettled. Showers or longer outbreaks of rain are likely in much of the UK. Over high ground in northern England and at low levels in Scotland there is an ongoing risk of snow. Windy and very cold in the north. Mild in the south.
Saturday is expected to be showery and quite mild in the southern half of the UK. In the north it remains colder and there could be further spells of rain, sleet and snow in Scotland.
By Sunday milder conditions are likely in much of the UK, although it probably remains colder in Scotland. With the exception of the Scottish mountains, showers fall as rain.
