Tonight, the band of rain slowly clears southwards. In Scotland snow showers become heavy and widespread, but other parts of the UK have a mostly dry end to the night. Very cold in the north with a widespread frost developing.
Tomorrow there will be further sleet and snow showers in Scotland. The rest of the UK is expected to be dry, with the brightest conditions in the north. By the late afternoon outbreaks of rain begin pushing into the south west. Cold, especially in the north.
During Thursday outbreaks of rain push northeastwards across much of England, Wales and Northern Ireland. On their leading edge from the Midlands northwards they are likely to turn to snow, and significant accumulations are possible, particularly over high ground. In southern England rain is expected, and later in the day snow probably turns back to rain over low ground in central areas too. The main area of precipitation isn't expected to reach Scotland and the far north of England, but wintry showers are likely in these areas. Cold and windy in most of the UK, but milder in the south.
Forecast details for Friday are uncertain. The risk of rain, sleet and snow is likely to have transferred to the northern half of the UK. Southern and central regions probably have a mostly dry but overcast day. Cold in the north, mild in the south.
The north to south split continues on Saturday. In the north there could be further patchy outbreaks of sleet and snow. In the south showery rain is possible.
