Storm Jocelyn keeps the weather very unsettled today with outbreaks of rain and strong winds affecting most of the UK. The strongest winds are expected to be in the north west, where disruption is likely. Over the next few days a change takes place as high pressure builds from the south. It will bring a quieter period, with rain becoming increasingly restricted to the north west. Issued 23rd January 2024
Tuesday begins wet in southwestern Britain and Northern Ireland. Elsewhere it is mostly dry.
Through the day outbreaks of rain push eastwards. In the north they will be heavy, but in central and eastern England they should ease this afternoon. It becomes very windy with gales in western and north western counties.
The very unsettled conditions are a result of a deep area of low pressure which has been named Storm Jocelyn by Met Eireann. Following hot on the heels of Isha, it is the tenth named storm of the season and the second in the last two days.
Temperatures range from 6°C in north eastern Scotland to a very mild 13°C in western England, Wales and Northern Ireland. You can check the weather radar for the most up to date view.
