The wintry weather continues today. Heavy and disruptive outbreaks of snow are expected in large parts of central Britain. To their south it will be milder with showery bursts of rain. To their north a mostly dry and cold day is expected, although there will be snow showers in places. Thursday starts with outbreaks of snow in much of Wales and rain in south western England. Elsewhere it is mostly dry and there has been a severe frost in the north.

Through the day wet weather pushes eastwards across much of England, Wales and Northern Ireland. In the south and south Midlands the precipitation mostly falls as rain. However, in other areas sleet or snow is likely and heavy falls are expected in places. The worst conditions are expected to be over high ground in in northern England where accumulations of 30cm to 40cm are possible.

The far north of England and Scotland have snow showers. Most will be in the east and much of the west remains dry.

Very cold in central and northern areas with temperatures only rising a few degrees above freezing point at best. I nthe south it will be a lot milder and 11C (52F) could be reached to the south of London. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Tonight outbreaks of rain, sleet and snow continue to affect Wales, as well as central and northern England. In the south there could be patchy and light spells of rain. Northern England, Northern Ireland and Scotland will be mostly dry and very frosty, although in the far north snow showers continue.

Tomorrow outbreaks of rain, sleet and snow clear southeastwards. All regions then have sunny spells, but in northern Scotland further snow showers are likely. Windy in southern and central regions. Cold in all areas

Unsettled and at times cold

During Saturday a band of precipitation pushes into south western Britain and Northern Ireland. On it's leading edge in Wales and Northern Ireland snow is likely. Other areas remain mostly dry and bright, although an area of sleet and snow may push across the northern half of Scotland. Cold.

Sunday is looking mixed. A band of wet weather, which could produce some snow in central and northern counties, clears eastwards. Brighter skies follow, but later on another batch of cloud and rain pushes into the south west. Cold in the north, milder in the south.

Monday sees showers or longer spells of rain affecting much of the UK. In Scotland there could be outbreaks of sleet and snow.  Quite mild in southern and central regions, but cold in the north.
