The dry and quiet weather continues today. However, it will be turning colder this weekend and the chance of showers increases. Wintry conditions are expected for much of next week and there is a risk of rain, sleet and snow. In general snow is more likely in central and northern regions with conditions in the south being more marginal. UKV 1
UK Met Office UKV, rain and snow, 15:00 Friday, 3rd March

Tonight a band of light and showery rain moves into the northern half of Scotland. In the rest of the UK it will be dry and clear spells lead to quite a widespread frost forming.

Tomorrow showers continue in the northern half of Scotland and a few could push into eastern counties of England. In other areas it's another dry and bright day. Temperatures similar to today's.

UKV 2
UK Met Office UKV, temperatures, 15:00 Saturday, 4th March

Turning colder this weekend

Sunday is looking like rather cold across the UK. Showers become more widespread, with most of them in the north and east. Across the northern half of Scotland many of them fall as snow down to low levels. In areas further south most continue to fall as rain.

Through Monday a band of rain and hill snow clears southwards. Bright conditions follow but showers develop and many of them will be wintry. In the northern half of Scotland significant accumulations of snow are likely.

Forecast details for Tuesday are very uncertain. Computer models are suggesting the possibility of longer spells of rain, sleet and snow affecting much of the UK. On balance snow is considered more likely in central and northern regions, with rain in the south, particularly at low levels.
