The meteorological spring starts today as the winter left off. In the next couple of days not much changes, although there may be more sunshine than recently. However, through the weekend colder air pushes southwards and wintry showers start to push into the north east. Next week the risk of snow could become more widespread. Wednesday starts with scattered showers in England and Wales. In Scotland and Northern Ireland it is dry.

Through the day showers are a risk in much of the UK and although most will be light there could be an odd heavier one mixed in. Sunny spells develop in places, the best of them will generally be in the north west where it remains dry.

Temperatures range from 5C (41F) in the north to 9C (48F) in the south west. See the rain radar for the latest view.

UKV 1
UK Met Office UKV, rain and snow, 15:00 Wednesday, 1st March

Tonight showers continue in northern England and Northern Ireland, but in other areas they fade away. Areas to the south and north have clear spells and a patchy frost.

Tomorrow showers become lighter and more scattered. Many places have a dry day and sunny spells perhaps developing more widely than recently. Temperatures in the afternoon should be a little higher than in recent days.

UKV 2
UK Met Office UKV, temperatures, 15:00 Thursday, 2nd March

Cold arctic plunge expected

Friday is looking mainly dry and bright. Despite patchy frost early and later temperatures shouldn't be too far from the average in the afternoon.

During Saturday colder air moves southwards. There will be a lot of dry weather, although a band of light and showery rain moves down across the northern half of the UK. A few snow showers may follow into Scotland.

Sunday is looking like a cold day across the UK. Showers become more widespread, with most of them in coastal counties and the northern half of Scotland. In the north many of them could fall as sleet or snow, and nin Scotland significant accumulations are possible.
