Storm Boelo continues to impact

Storm Boelo will bring heavy showers or longer spells of rain to northern areas, accompanied by gales or severe gales. The unsettled theme persists over the next few days, but there are signs of a change in the second half of the coming week, with high pressure bringing a drier and calmer period.

Disruptive winds in the north

Persistent outbreaks of rain in Scotland will slowly clear northwards today. Heavy showers follow across other parts of the north. Southern and central areas have scattered showers, but many places remain dry and bright. It will be windy across all areas, especially in the north where there will be severe gales. Gusts along Scottish coasts could exceed 80mph.

Tonight:
Winds will ease but showers continue in the north. Other areas will be dry to begin with, but outbreaks of rain steadily push into south western Britain and Northern Ireland.

Tomorrow: Heavy outbreaks of rain spread northeastwards. In southern and central areas brighter conditions return, and it will become much milder than recently. However, in the north it will remain chilly.

Tuesday: England, Wales and Northern Ireland will have a mix of sunny spells and showers. In Scotland, there is a risk of longer outbreaks of rain. It will be windy, with gales or even severe gales in the north.

Outlook: Changeable weather will continue initially. However, during the second half of the week high pressure is expected to build, leading to more settled conditions. Halloween could be a spooky affair if that is the case, with an increased chance of mist and fog.
