Showers develop in southern areas today and in the south east some of them will be heavy. It will be colder than recently and some of the showers are likely to have a wintry flavour, especially over high ground. Raw conditions continue this weekend and into next week. The northern half of the UK will have a dry and bright day. The south has cloudier conditions and showers develop, with some heavy ones in the southeast this afternoon. In places they turn wintry, and sleet or snow is possible over high ground.

Tonight, wintry showers continue pushing eastwards across England and Wales. In places they could merge to give longer spells of rain, sleet and snow. Accumulating snow is most likely over high ground, in particular the Welsh mountains, Dartmoor and Exmoor, and the Peak District. The north has a cold, dry and frosty night.
Tomorrow, showery outbreaks of rain, sleet and snow push into parts of the south. A covering of snow is possible in a few places, mostly over high ground. In the rest of the UK it will be dry and bright. Cold, especially in the south and east.

Temperatures fluctuate during the next few days. On Sunday it is likely to be a little milder, but colder conditions return on Monday and Tuesday. There will be a good deal of dry weather but further showers are expected and at times they turn wintry, especially over high ground. Frost will form readily in areas where clear periods develop.
