Wet weather pushes northeastwards across the UK today. Tomorrow the risk of showers continues in the north west but other areas should be dry and bright. The big change comes at the weekend as a ridge of high pressure builds and temperatures zoom up. By Sunday 30C is possible in the south and Monday could turn out to be the hottest day of the year so far. An area of rain in the south west will steadily push northeastwards through the day. The outbreaks of rain turn heavy in northern Britain this afternoon. In the south they remain mostly light and patchy, although a few heavier bursts are possible. Some bright intervals are possible in central and eastern England, and later this afternoon it turns drier in Northern Ireland.
Quite windy. Temperatures range from 15°C in the far north west to 24°C in East Anglia. Check the weather radar for the most up to date view.

Tonight, the persistent rain in the northern half of Britain steadily pulls away. A weak band of rain will also be moving southeastwards across central and southern regions, probably lingering in the south eastern corner by the morning.
Tomorrow, the remnants of the rain in the south east pull away to leave dry and bright conditions in most of the UK. The exception is the north west where showers are likely. Quite warm in the south.
UK Met UKV, Friday 9th August [Tap animation to toggle cities]
During the weekend a ridge of high pressure builds northwards across the UK. The risk of showers or longer spells of rain increasingly becomes restricted to the far north west. Elsewhere, sunny periods develop and temperatures climb, possibly reaching 30°C in the south on Sunday. Peak heat is likely on Monday, with computer model predictions still showing quite a widespread of outcomes. Values are ranging from the mid 20Cs to the mid 30Cs. If the top end projections are close to the mark then Monday will be the hottest day of the year so far.
