Showers in England and Wales fade away to leave dry conditions across the UK today. The quiet conditions continue tomorrow and Friday, but the nights will be cold with frost being a risk even in the south. This weekend it steadily turns more unsettled as low pressure returns. (If you would like to browse the website without adverts and contribute to its ongoing development, explore the payment options, see below)

Tonight the showers push southwards across the northern half of the UK. Over high ground they bring a risk of sleet and snow, but many places miss them and remain dry. Clear periods lead to a very cold night and even in the south temperatures are likely to dip below freezing point in places.

Tomorrow brings a mix of sunny spells and showers to most of Britain. The showers could turn heavy and over high ground in the north sleet or snow is possible. In Northern Ireland patchy outbreaks of rain develop.

Low pressure returning this weekend

Friday looks mixed with sunny spells and showers, some of which could be heavy in the north and west. In southern and central regions temperatures are expected to be a little higher than recently.

Forecast details for Saturday are uncertain, but a deep area of low pressure is expected to be close to the south of the UK. That suggests a chance of heavy showers or longer spells of rain, particularly in the southern half of the UK.

During Sunday showers or longer spells of rain are possible in much of the UK. However, if sunny spells develop it could turn quite warm in central and eastern counties.
