Tonight, outbreaks of rain steadily push southeastwards and there will be some heavy bursts mixed in. Clearer skies follow and it turns colder. In the north showers increasingly fall as sleet or snow over the hills.

Tomorrow is likely to be dry in England and Wales, while Scotland and Northern Ireland have a mix of sunny spells and showers. Over the Scottish mountains they continue to have a wintry flavour. Temperatures will generally be lower than in recent days.

Mixed outlook but wettest in the north west

On Saturday outbreaks of rain spread across the north west of the UK, possibly reaching as far south as northern Wales. In other areas it should be mostly dry, and although a good deal of cloud is likely there could be a few bright spells.

Through Sunday a band of heavy rain moves down across the northern half of the UK. Areas to its north have sunny spells and showers. Generally mild, although turning colder in the north as the rain clears.

Monday is looking rather chilly and bright in the north. Southern and central regions probably have patchy outbreaks of rain.
