Wet and windy weather on the way

The rest of the week is looking unsettled, with heavy outbreaks of rain and strong winds affecting most of the UK at times. The windiest periods are expected to be tomorrow and from Thursday night through Friday. There is potential for disruption, with the possibility of the first named storm of the new season, which would be named Austen.

Rain spreading northwards

Outbreaks of rain, heavy at times, in southern and western Britain will push northwards through the day. Drier conditions will return to much of southern England and Wales this afternoon. Eastern Scotland and Northern Ireland stay mostly dry.

Tonight:
Rain in the northern becomes confined to eastern Scotland by morning. However, another area of wet and windy weather pushes into southern England and Wales.

Tomorrow: Outbreaks of heavy rain spread eastwards across England and Wales. It will also become very windy in the south, with severe gales possible in the English Channel. Scotland and Northern Ireland will see sunny spells and showers. Feeling very cold in the wet areas.

Thursday: A mostly dry and bright day is expected, although wet and windy conditions will begin moving into the south west by the evening. Temperatures will be close to or slightly below the seasonal norm.

Outlook: Wet and very windy weather is expected across southern and central areas on Friday. Forecast details remain uncertain, but some models are showing wind gusts of over 70 mph inland. Unsettled weather is likely to continue through the weekend, with temperatures fluctuating around the late October norm.
