Heavy April showers. Posted by Brian Gaze

Showers will be more scattered today and winds lighter. Despite that, temperatures remain on the low side for mid-April. Through the rest of the week daytime temperatures gradually edge upwards, but the nights remain quite cold and frost is an ongoing risk, particularly in the north. (If you would like to browse the website without adverts and contribute to its ongoing development, explore the payment options, see below)

Weather forecast discussion

Tuesday starts with scattered showers in eastern and western coastal counties. Elsewhere it is dry.

Through the day showers become more widespread. However, there won't be as many as there were yesterday and many places are likely to remain dry and bright. Winds will also continue to ease, but they will still be strong in eastern England.

Temperatures range on the low side with values ranging from 7°C to 12°C. Check the weather radar for the most up to date view.

UKV 1
UK Met Office UKV, cloud and rain, 15:00 Tuesday 16th April

Tonight the showers become more scattered. Nonetheless, there could still be a few heavy ones, particularly in the  northern half of Scotland where they could fall as sleet or snow over higher ground. Clear periods allow temperatures to drop and in the north frost develops quite widely.

Tomorrow it's a similar picture. Showers develop again and a few of them could be heavy. Temperatures remain on the low side and frost is likely to return quite widely overnight.

Drier and more settled

Thursday is likely to be mostly dry in southern and central regions. In the north things will be more mixed as an area of rain pushes eastwards, possibly with some heavy bursts mixed in. Temperatures will be a little higher than recently.

Friday could begin with outbreaks of rain in East Anglia and the far south east. They should clear quickly to leave dry and bright conditions, but it will be windy in the east. In sunny spells it feels pleasantly warm.

Saturday is likely to be dry and bright in much of the UK. The exception is north western Scotland where patchy outbreaks of rain may push in at times.
