Cold or very cold weather continues this weekend and into the early part of next week. Much of the UK remains dry, but there will be snow showers in places, particularly Scotland and coastal counties. Frosts are likely to be severe in places and freezing fog could become an additional hazard.
Friday starts with a widespread and sharp frost and locally there is freezing fog. In the northern half of Scotland there are heavy snow showers and there are a few in north facing coastal counties.
Through the day snow showers are continue in the northern half of Scotland as well as northern and western coastal counties. However, most of the UK has a dry day with sunny periods.
Very cold. Temperatures range from -1C (30F) in Scotland to 5C (41F) near to the south coast. See the rain radar for the latest view.
Tonight snow showers continue in the same areas. Elsewhere long clear periods lead to a a widespread frost and in places it will be severe. Freezing fog could also form.
Tomorrow is looking dry, bright and very cold in most of the UK. However, snow showers perhaps develop more widely in northern and western counties. Widespread frost early and late, severe in places. Freezing fog may also be an issue.
Sunday is looking dry, sunny and very cold, although there could be a scattering of snow showers. Widespread frost early and late, severe in places.
Monday brings more of the same to central and northern areas. However, in the south and south east there is a lot chance of an area of snow showers pushing westwards. Cold or very cold. Widespread frost early and late.
During the middle of next week areas of low pressure approach from the southwest. Most computer models are now suggesting they along with their associated weather fronts will stay to the south of the UK. Therefore, it probably remains dry and cold, with snow showers mostly in coastal counties. Nonetheless, there is a chance of rain, sleet and snow pushing into southern Britain.
