Wet and windy weather sweeps across the UK today and it turns milder. The weekend brings showery and very windy conditions as Storm Jorge pushes in from the Atlantic. Wind gusts of 70mph are possible tomorrow in the north west. Next week the unsettled period is likely to continue....READ IN FULL

Friday starts with rain in Northern Ireland, Wales and south western England. Elsewhere it is dry and cold. This morning wet and windy weather quickly spreads northeastwards across most areas. In the north it turns to snow for a time and over the hills significant accumulations are likely. This afternoon outbreaks of rain and snow continue in Scotland. Elsewhere the rain becomes patchier but there will be further heavy bursts in the west.
Temperatures range from 5C (41F) in the north to 12C (54F) in the south. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Tonight further heavy spells of rain spread into northern and western areas. Clearer and colder conditions follow into Northern Ireland. Eastern England has a cloudy and damp night.

Tomorrow morning outbreaks of rain clear eastwards. They may linger in East Anglia and the south eastern corner into the early afternoon. Brighter skies follow but showers develop and turn wintry in northern Britain. It will be quite cold and very windy with severe gales in the north west.

Sunday brings a mix of sunny spells and wintry showers to the north. In the south east there is a possibility of more prolonged outbreaks of rain. Windy with the risk of gales in northern England and southern Scotland. Feeling quite cold generally.
The showery theme continues on Monday. In the north it will be cold enough for sleet or snow to fall to low levels at times.
Through the rest of next week the unsettled weather continues. Wet and windy spells will probably be most frequent in the north where it could be cold enough for snow at times.
