Tuesday starts with heavy wintry showers in western areas. In the east it is mainly dry. Through the day showers become widespread. They bring a wintry mix and in the north snow is likely to fall to low levels. Even in the south there could be a few flakes of snow in heavier ones.

Temperatures range from 3C (37F) in the north to 8C (46F) in the south. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Unsettled and quite chilly

During Thursday morning a period of rain and snow is expected to spread eastwards across southern and central regions. Over high ground, such as the Chilterns and Cotswolds, there is the possibility of a covering of snow. By early afternoon the rain, sleet and snow should have cleared from the south east. Northern areas have a mix of sunny spells and wintry showers.

Friday probably begins dry and cold. Cloud builds from the west and late in the day outbreaks of rain push into the west. Overnight they spread eastwards and turn to snow over high ground in the north.

The weekend is looking windy, cold and showery. It could turn cold enough for sleet or snow at times, particularly in the north.
