Chilly and unsettled

During Thursday morning outbreaks of rain and hill snow spread clear eastwards across the southern half of the UK. In the north they linger and over high ground in Scotland significant snowfall is expected. Brighter conditions develop in the south but heavy showers push in from the west.

Through Friday outbreaks of rain push southeastwards and become increasingly patchy. It will be milder than recently. Windy with gales in the north and west.

The unsettled period continues through the weekend. All regions have further spells of rain and in the north it will be cold enough for sleet or snow at times, especially over high ground. On Saturday there is the potential for stormy weather and strong winds to lead to disruption again.
