Tomorrow rain clears eastwards to leave sunny spells. Scattered showers develop with most of them in the west and north west. Southern and central regions have a mild day but it will feel chilly in the north.

Green Christmas

On Christmas Day showers, which could be wintry over high ground in the north, fade away to leave dry and bright conditions. In the afternoon cloud builds from the west but it should remain dry. Temperatures will be close to the seasonal average.

During Boxing Day outbreaks of rain spread eastwards across much of the country. Over high ground in the north they turn to snow and significant accumulations are possible, particularly over the Scottish mountains. Brighter conditions follow but further heavy showery rain pushes into Wales, south western England and Northern Ireland. It will be windy with gales in the west and south west.

Through the rest of the week high pressure builds from the south and begins influencing things. After a chilly start it turns a lot milder and the southern half of the UK becomes mainly dry.
