Saturday begins with a widespread frost and there is patchy fog too. Much of the UK has a dry and cold day with sunny periods but as ever there are exceptions. North eastern coastal counties have showers and over high ground they could be wintry. In south western England thicker cloud brings outbreaks of rain and at times they could be heavy.

Temperatures range from 4C (39F) in Scotland to 10C (50F) in the south west. See the rain radar for the latest view.

UK winter 2019/20 Update 3 [NEW]

Tomorrow will be another cold day. Most places remain dry but showers affect eastern coastal counties and a few could push inland in the south east. A widespread frost returns in the evening, although in Scotland it may turn cloudier and milder overnight.

High pressure in charge

Monday looks dry, bright and chilly across the southern half of the UK. In the north cloud builds and outbreaks of rain push across Scotland.

Through Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday high pressure keeps the weather dry across England and Wales. Daytime temperatures edge upwards but nighttime frosts remain a risk where clear periods develop. Scotland and Northern Ireland have rain at times but also drier periods.

Towards the end of the week the unsettled conditions in the north steadily spread southwards.
