Wednesday starts dry and cold across much of the UK. There are scattered showers in eastern Britain and patchy outbreaks of rain in the south west. Through the day the rain in the south west pushes northeastward a little and becomes heavier at times. Elsewhere there will be sunny periods with the best of them in central and northern regions.

Temperatures range from 7C (45F) in the north to 11C (52F) in the south. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Unsettled and possibly quite cold

During Friday rain spreads northeastwards across much of the country. Later in the day more showery conditions should return from the west. It will be quite windy.

Saturday starts dry in much of the country but through the day wet and windy weather moves up from the southwest. There is the likelihood of gales in the south west and near the south coast. The unsettled theme continues on Sunday with showers or longer spells of rain.

Next week areas of low pressure keep the weather unsettled. It could become quite cold and the chance of snow in the north may increase.
