The first day of the meteorological autumn brings a mix of sunshine and showers to central and northern regions. Much of the south remains dry. The next few days look mixed with showers or longer spells of rain at times, especially in the north. It will be on the cool side for early September....READ IN FULL
Sunday starts with showers in the north and west. Through the day showers become widespread across central and northern regions. Some could also push into East Anglia and the south eastern corner but other parts of the south miss most of them. Sunny spells develop but it will be quite blustery.
Temperatures range from 11C (52F) in the far north west to 21C (70F) in the south east. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Tomorrow wet and windy weather spreads across Northern Ireland and Scotland. The rain will be heavy in western Scotland and some of it could push into north western England. Elsewhere it will mostly dry with variable amounts of cloud. Temperatures on the low side generally but it will feel pleasantly warm in the south east and East Anglia.

During Tuesday wet weather continues in the north and west. The heaviest rain will be in the north west. Other areas should be mostly dry with variable amounts of cloud. Temperatures will close to the seasonal average in much of the country but central and eastern England should be quite warm.
Through Tuesday night and early Wednesday a band of rain clears southeastwards. Cool and showery conditions follow it into all regions.
The rather cool and mixed theme continues through the rest of the week. The driest and brightest spells are likely to be in the south.
