Tuesday starts with patchy outbreaks of rain in southern and western counties. Elsewhere it is mainly dry. Through the day rain becomes mostly confined to south England and south Wales. Locally there could be some heavy bursts. Central and northern areas will be dry and increasingly sunny.

Temperatures range from 10C (50F) in the north east to 13C (55F) in the south and west. See the rain and precipitation type radar for the latest view.

Tomorrow dry and bright conditions are expected in all regions. Colder upper level air filters southwestwards so temperatures will be down a little on recent days. However in sunny spells it shouldn't feel too bad. A widespread frost develops overnight.

Dry and chilly outlook

Thursday brings mainly dry and bright weather, although an odd shower is possible in the north east. It will be quite chilly, especially in the east. Frost returns overnight.

During Friday and the weekend a blocking area of high pressure remains centred over Scandinavia. An easterly flow on its southern flank pulls colder air across much of the UK. Computer models suggest that Atlantic disturbances will be held at bay throughout this period. Therefore most places stay dry, although during the weekend wintry showers could feed in from the east.

Next week more changeable weather is expected to gradually return. Temperatures also recover and by the Easter period it could become quite warm.
