Strong winds and heavy rain affect much of the UK today as Storm Freya moves in from the southwest. Unsettled weather continues during the coming week. Sunday is off to a very mixed. There are outbreaks of rain in the southern half of Britain and heavy showers in Scotland. The wet weather in the south pushes northwards and eastwards during the course of the day. This afternoon it reaches northern England, Northern Ireland and southern Scotland. Over high ground in the north it may turn to snow at times. Brighter conditions return to the south west and steadily extend across southern areas.
The other feature of the weather today will be strong winds. In Scotland the windiest conditions will be this morning. In southern and central regions it's the opposite. Winds strengthen with gales during the second half of the day and there is the possibility of severe gales in the south west.
Temperatures range from 6C (42F) in the north to 13C (55F) in the south. See the rain and precipitation type radar for the latest view.

Tonight outbreaks of rain continue in northern England and southern Scotland. There could also be a band of rain moving across counties to the south of London. It will be very windy with gales in southern and central regions, but by the end of the night gusts should be easing.

Tomorrow outbreaks of rain clear from southern counties to leave a mix of sunshine and heavy showers. In the north and over the Welsh mountains the showers turn wintry. It remains blustery. The north has quite a cold day and in the south temperatures will be lower than recently. In the evening and overnight more persistent outbreaks of rain could push across the south.

Tuesday is looking showery in the north. In the south there should be a reasonable amount of sunshine in the morning. Later on another period of wet and windy weather pushes in from the southwest. Forecast details are uncertain but there is the potential for it to produce large rainfall totals.
The unsettled theme continues through the rest of the week. All regions have showers or longer spells of rain and it will be cold enough for snow over high ground in the north.
